Sports Banquet

When thinking about athletes the first thing that usually does not come to mind is three piece suits and elegant dress. But, to celebrate their accomplishments and a hard fought season, the athletes of Evangel got together for their annual sports banquet. During the banquet, athletes are recognized for their commitment, dedication, and hard work. They put in countless hours of training and worked tirelessly to not only better themselves, but their teammates as well. What made this Banquet special was the relationship and bonds that these athletes shared with each other. True relationships are not formed over night; they take time to build and time to grow. They are rarely perfect. They have ups and downs and plenty of growing pains, but it is through these experiences that bonds are strengthened and lasting memories are made.

Head and Heart

Cathy Ferguson once said, Ninety-eight percent of success is in the head and the heart. This could not be any truer then for track. Your biggest competition is not your opponent standing next to you. Your biggest competition is the voice inside of you. Track tests a person’s will. One can be physically in shape, but if they lack mental conditioning, then their body will give in to the desire to quit. This year’s track team was not only physically in shape, but mentally in shape as well. I remember one of the kids saying, it only hurts to a point, then it doesn’t get any worse. You have to set goals & stand by those goals, striving every day to be better than the last.

Track

Great Season

If you really want to test your abilities and see what you are capable of, track is the place for you. Tired, what are you tired from? This is the easy part, it’s only tryouts. Wait till you actually make the team. These athletes pushed their selves and their bodies to the limit every practice. They never said that they were tired or couldn’t do it, they dug down deep and willed themselves to finish. Each practice they strove to do better than the day before & to their credit they succeeded. I am so proud of you all. Great Season.

ECS Track Team

track

This track season I have had the honor and privilege of working with nineteen gifted athletes. From the first day of tryouts they were told that once on the team they would be pushed far beyond what they believed to be their limits. Tryouts consisted of two solid hours of track drills, which were designed to test how in shape the athlete was in.

To be a member of the track team one has to be hard working, dedicated, motivated, and have self-confident. There is no glory in Track and Field, no pep rally’s, no home crowd to cheer you on. Track and Field is solely about individual talent and constantly striving to be better then the previous day. Throughout the season these athletes were tested both mentally and physically. They were challenged and asked to perform far beyond what they believed they could handle. But time and time again these athletes rose to the occasion and proved how much they wanted to be a part of the team. For most of the athletes on track team this season was one that established in their mind that they can stick with and preserver through any obstacle and that giving up is not an option.

Sports Banquet

vb

I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion by Mia Hamm. After an intense and exciting year, members of our sports teams came together to celebrate their accomplishments and reflect on all the, “funny” moments they had throughout the year. We started off our night with lots of laughter, watching slideshows of the athletes when they were younger. After laughing at each other’s baby pictures, we opened up the microphone to anyone that had a funny story about the team; needless to say many took this opportunity. Muhammad Ali once said, “Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them — a desire, a dream, a vision.” Our athletes have something that many others lack and that is a genuine passion and love for the game. They play not because of the recognition that it brings, but because it is an extension and expression of whom they are. I thank God for my Athletes and all that they have taught me. They could not have made my first year as Athletics Director any better then it already was.

-Mr. Wong

Track & Field

Someone once said, “Pain is weakness leaving the body.” If this quote is correct then the members of my track team were losing pounds of weakness every day. To say that practice were challenging and intense would be an understatement. The phrase that I often heard was, “Coach are you serious?” And the answer that always followed was, “Do I really have to answer that?” Thirteen athletes started off on the track team and thirteen athletes finished. Out of all the teams that I have coached, this season has had the most memories and most laughs. We have become more then just a track team, we have become a family. I have had the opportunity not only to see one child grow up, but thirteen. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and commitment. And how can I forget about the video you put together for me during the Sports Banquet. It meant so much to me, more then you will know. I love you all. -Coach Wong

Spirit Week and Pep Rally

Goooooooo EAGLES! Cheering, Pompoms, Pictures Flashing, Team Members, and Plays were all part of our Pep Rally. this was all part of our Spirit Week Students in 6-12 grades had very special days the week of November 17-21. Each day students represented a different theme: Monday – Favorite Sports Team, Tuesday – Funny Hat and Feet Day, Wednesday – Twin Day, Thursday – School Spirit, Friday – Country Day (dress in the colors of your nationality). Elementary School enjoyed: Wednesday – Favorite Color Day, Thursday– Favorite Stuffed Animal, Friday – Funny Feet And Hat Day.

On Thursday, during the latter half of the c day, Middle School and High ch gathered in the gym for our Pep Rally. All our team members were hailed and there were fun contests and prizes given out. This was a great way to get us ready for the first double-header of the year.

Make sure to check out our “Galleries” to view lots of adorable pictures.
