Our Forensics Class is working on making bite mark casts. They will investigate their group’s teeth impressions and will measure their teeth. In Lab they are working on Blood Stains and will soon be going on a field trip to John Jay for a hands on workshop.

We have started a book of short stories and poems this week. We read the story of the Good Samaritan, from Luke 10:29-33. We discussed how our responses to those around use reflect our relationship with the Lord. The unit title is “In the Neighborhood”. The students, through reading, will learn Godly characteristics and will also learn how to demonstrate those in their everyday lives.

We have finished reading the Narnia book, The Last Battle. The students were amazed to find out that the Kings and Queens of Narnia died in their own land and were allowed to stay in Narnia forever. I reminded them that Narnia represented heaven in the book and if they serve Christ one day they to will spend eternity in heaven.

As Evangel’s sophomores worked their way through Dickens’s, they discovered his masterful use of satire (prose or verse that uses wit in the form of irony, innuendo, or derision to criticize and/or ridicule humanity into improvement) t. In celebration of completing some of Dicken’s works, students were given the task of writing their own piece of satire. Topics range from gang violence and abortion to the school uniform and peer pressure. After undergoing a couple of workshop sessions, students will have the opportunity to see their pieces in our very own class publication, Satire Magazine. (Each sophomore class will have their own edition.) I hope this will serve not only as a memento of a job well done, but also as encouragement to persevere through any situation that may at first appear daunting. For when they decide to push on, they will undoubtedly find themselves in the midst of an undeniable victory. “With God, all things are possible!”
What kind of Community do you live in? 1C located the United States on a world map, then we located New York State on a United States Political Map, before our discussion about what kind of community we live in, a town with a lot of trees, a village with lots of trees, but with more houses and stores or a city with a lot of big buildings, houses and plenty of stores near by? This led our discussions right back to our community workers and how they are important to any kind of community.

Our first fun activity was putting together 3 Pattern Block Puzzles, using triangles, hexagons, rhombus’ and trapezoids. It was so much fun, we even cut out our own shapes and then glued them into a larger shape. Then the class shared and recorded their ideas! Oh yeah, this is a math lesson! We almost forgot – we were having so much fun. Ms. Calma
Students have been talking about the stock market and will continue this discussion for the next several weeks. They will be looking at the “Wall Street Journal,” and how stocks rise and fall each day. Students will also have the opportunity to play a stock market game to see what would happen if they were to invest in stocks.

In Math, students will be focusing on graphing linear equations and functions. Students just completed working on equations, ratios and proportions.

Students have been working on percents and decimals. We have completed many activities that helped us learn how to use them and figure them out.

Students are studying integers and rational numbers. They have begun adding and subtracting these numbers and will continue on with multiplying and dividing as the month continues.
