This Land Is Your Land

In our Sidewalks Intensive Reading Intervention class we are completing our first unit this week, titled: This Land Is Your Land. Our first concept was on Diversity. The students were immediately able to understand this concept when they realized how our school is made up of different students from different countries. This concept was reinforced this week during our International week activities. The week we learned about exploration we were able to read about new discoveries to help us see things near and far. It was especially neat reading about the camera pill now available to see inside our throat & stomach. In the last three weeks we discovered that we could learn about the United States as we travel and we also learned what special landmarks are in the Southwest and the West coast. These stories created a desire to want to visit these sites someday. It’s wonderful how reading allows us to travel without actually leaving our school.
