Abstinence

In our 8th and 9th grade classes, we were given the opportunity this year to implement an abstinence program. We were able to sit in a chapel where the author of the book spoke about the program. In both 8th and 9th grade we tackled the important issue of purity and the reason why God wants us to remain on track to achieve our dreams. The lessons were really impactful. On my Final exam of the year, I asked them to define the most meaningful lesson and to my surprise 78% of both classes cited that this particular lesson meant the most to them. All in all during the course of this year I have seen a steady growth in the area of God in the lives of the middle school and the High school students which I taught. Glory be to God.

What Did You Say

In our 7th grade classes one of the most memorable lessons was the lesson about learning to be a good listener. As teenagers, they had to learn the importance of why God gave us two ears and only one mouth. It was a riot to watch the students interact during a lesson where they had to guess what their partner was saying and write it down. The key was that the person speaking had tape over their mouth making it difficult to speak and hear what they were saying. It was a great object lesson, one that I don’t think they will soon forget.

Pride vs Humility

This year in Bible class we studied a whole range of different characters as well as things we should apply to our daily lives. In one such lesson for the 6th grade we learned about Absalom and how his pride was his downfall and we need to be humble people. Even if we feel we are better than others, God’s word teaches us that He loves humility and despises pride. The students loved this lesson as we acted out the life of Absalom, in an object lesson.

This has been such an amazing school year.

The almost second graders have grown to be confident readers and writers. They came to school each day enthusiastic and ready to learn.

We took a journey to Antarctica measuring and weighing penguins. We became farmers purchasing land and animals for our model farms. We became scientists and discovered how our body systems work for us. We became researchers and discussed great inventors and how their scientific discoveries changed our world. We explored the past from ancient civilizations to the early exploration of the American West.

Our favorite time in first grade was sharing our writing pieces during our monthly Publishing Parties.

The end of the year is always a bittersweet time. We are looking forward to our summer break but will miss our time together.

Thanks for the beautiful note and creative thank you cards from the students. We enjoyed viewing the beautiful and creative art work of the students and the apparent hard work and dedication of Evangel School staff especially their art teacher. We are instructed to train a child in the way he or she should go or do. Evangel School staff is imparting that to the students and our present and future generation gain from that training.

Thank you for your extraordinary work that you do for the students. The Kiwanis Club of Hollis plan to give the students their annual Terrific Kids Ice Cream Party.

Love and prayers,

C. Janet Banks
