Laws of Motion

Students did a lab on the Third Law of Motion by creating rockets. They were in groups and measured the distance and speed of balloons inflated with air. The balloons were released from one end to another with string and a straw. Students were able to predict and record results. They hypothesized what would happen if the balloon traveled at different lengths and angles.

Iroquois Confederacy

This month in Social Studies we are studying the Native Americans of New York State. After learning about their history and lives, 4th grade is now becoming members of the Iroquois confederacy. Each student has been given a Native American name, is part of one of the 5 tribes of the confederacy, and has a role in it- clan mother, council leader, respected elder, or storyteller. Next, we will be having a council meeting in which the tribes will be given situations they have to decide on and vote about. Every member gets to share their opinion first. Finally, our storyteller will share stories they have made up that teach a lesson.

Medieval Times

Students are studying Medieval Europe and taking a closer look at how a feudal society works. Not only are we revisiting a time of kings, queens, knights, serfs, manors, and castles, we are also seeing how some of the laws we would eventually use when forming our own country came to be. As a culminating activity students create a shield for their own family and describe what symbols and colors they used and what they each represent.
