Hope and a Future
We studied God’s purpose and plan for our lives. We learned that we are unique and designed with a purpose. It’s important that our young people know there life has hope. The absence of hope is the presence of depression. There are a lot of young people walking around aimlessly, but we know that “God has given us a Hope and a Future!” Praise the Lord!

Our Restless Earth
Earthquakes are one of the earths most destructive forces, this has been our recent study. Students are learning about earthquakes – how they occur, in what regions they are most likely to happen and why, how to locate the point of origin, and what type of structures are affected and most susceptible to damage when they occur. While we are all terribly affected by the tragic lost of life and devastation that has occurred in Haiti by the recent Earthquake, this has provided an opportunity for our class to come alive through much prayer, compassion and research.

Photosynthesis
This month we have been studying a process which completely supports the entire earth – Photosynthesis – How plants use (light energy) sunlight and water to produce carbohydrates (food/energy) and oxygen. Energy is produced in the form of Glucose (sugar) and oxygen an important product produced by plants, an essential part of different organisms existence. Students are now very familiar with the chemical equation for photosynthesis and also have participated in different lab activities where they have had the opportunity to see photosynthesis in action. Using live evergreens we were able to trap the oxygen being released during the process. They will soon be learning the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Mrs. Alvarado
Physics
The seniors have investigated momentum using bumper cars. They were able to see and measure the effects of collisions. They have also studied circular motion. They had a great time swinging a rubber stopper above their heads in order to collect the data necessary to calculate tangential speed.

Chemistry
The juniors have been studying covalent bonds. They have looked at some of the unique properties of water. They have also used their understanding of polar and nonpolar bonds to separate the dyes found in markers.

Math Class
How fast will your investment increase? How fast will your car depreciate? These were questions that the class explored using exponential growth and decay models.

GEOMETRY IN ACTION
The sophomores have explored dilations using perspective drawings. They also practiced paper folding by making origami ornaments for Christmas. This was a very interesting class and a great lesson in reading directions and interpreting diagrams.

Christmas Program
December has been a month full of exciting activities. Kindergarten did a wonderful job singing in their Christmas Program, and we were excited to see all the families that came to show their support. It was a blessing to see students celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, which is Jesus Christ! Kindergarten also had fun creating their very own Ginger Bread houses. This has become an annual kindergarten tradition, and they all made spectacular and yummy houses to share with their families.

Gift Boxes
Students worked on painting paper mache gift boxes for that special someone. That special someone can be a good friend, a teacher, parents or other relatives. Students used various colors of tempera paint to paint their boxes and some also added beads, glitter, paper and ribbons. This craft is perfect for small gifts such as jewelry and other keepsakes.

Masquerade Ball
Students painted and decorated their own paper mache masquerade mask using tempera, acrylic, neon and metallic paints. They also had the choice of accenting them with feathers, beads, glitter and flowers.
