Bible Class
Students are continuing their knowledge of the Beattitudes. They are focusing on what it is to hunger and thirst for righteousness. They are realizing that when we strive for things on this earth, it is only temporal, instead we are learning to pursue things that will last us for eternity. They are enjoying class and we are looking forward to a trip after the break where we go out and feed the homeless. It is important for them to not only learn how to act but to do the actions as well.

Music Class
Students will be sharing their class song with the community for our Christmas program. Students have also been working on a Christmas song project in class. They worked with others from their class to prepare a favorite Christmas song. They are excited about this project and I have heard some great voices that I would have never discovered had we not done this assignment.

Music Class
Students are so excited to share their Christmas program with family and friends. They have learned a lot through this experience. This program focuses on countries all around the world and how they celebrate Christmas. After we have made it through the program, students will be able to sing Christmas carols and share what the true meaning of Christmas is for the last week of December. We look forward to coming back in January and continue learning music through instruments, voice and movement.

Christmas Program
Students have been working hard all month long in preparation for their upcoming Christmas program on December 17. The sixth grade will be sharing Go Tell It on the Mountain. While this is a traditional song sung at this time of year, they were able to learn a new arrangement and have been doing a great job. The seventh grade has had quite the challenge as they will be singing a Hebrew song, Hine Ma Tov. As much as they complain about learning a different language, I hear them in the hallways singing the song, it brings me much laughter. Finally, the eighth grade will be singing African Celebration. This is also sung in a different language but they have had no problem learning this song. I’m looking forward to a great Christmas program which illustrates how we are to go into all the world and preach the good news of Jesus Christ.

Christmas Around The World
Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Fifth grade will be singing two songs this year, O Come All Ye Faithful and Joyful, Joyful Lord We Adore Thee. They especially love their second song because we added movement. They have really brought life to our practices. I’m looking forward to parents sharing in this joy.

Christmas Around The World
Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Fourth grade will be singing, We Three Kings. The hardest part of learning this song has not been learning the lyrics but learning to wait during the rests when they don’t sing, we’re almost there. Fourth grade is getting older so they are also trying to learn to stay still rather than having a lot of movement during their song. They are doing quite well otherwise. They have been the best class, thus far, in how they enter and exit the sanctuary.

Christmas Around The World
Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Second grade will be singing, Jesus Born in Bethlehem. This has been a challenging song as most of the other grades had familiar Christmas carols. They rose to the challenge though and have been working diligently to prepare. They are excited to have their parents come and hear what they have been working on.

Christmas Around the World
Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. First grade will be singing, Joy to the World, all three verses. They are working hard to make sure they line up just the right way. In their last practice, first grade blew me away with how they knew how to line up and exit the sanctuary with such ease. They even begin challenging each other with trying to improve how they lined up. It brought joy to my heart, because they are beginning to take pride in their show.

Christmas Around the World
Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Kindergarten will be singing, Rise Up in Celebration. They have been working on adding motions to the song and trying so hard to stay focused, which is very challenging. They are anticipating their show in December. They can’t wait for their parents to see what they have been working on.

100 Hungry Ants
100 Hungry Ants is one of the topics we’re doing in math. The book One Hundred Hungry Ants by Elinor Pinczes was quite humorous in that the 100 ants were traveling to go on a picnic. They were really hungry. As the 100 ants traveled they split up into equal groups of 10’s and groups of 4’s and this had our 2nd Graders thinking……… Not only did they get to laugh as the hungry tummies went by “a hi and a hi dee hoo!” but they got an opportunity to use unfix cubes to actually work out how many groups of 10’s there were in 100 and other related groups. What was very interesting was when we brain stormed about the topic Ants as to the information we already knew; a few children related the ants to our class. Some said they are a team working together to get their food, just like 2B are working together in our class. While others said it was important for each ant to cooperate and walk-in straight lines, when they tried to get their food. They saw that 2nd graders needed to learn lessons from the Hungry Ants. They knew almost immediately that the hungry ants made more than one line because they wanted to get to the picnic faster. It was really a fun project as the kids got to make up problems from what they observed and show how they came up with their answer. It was amazing when a particular student said we all need to follow a leader and each group of ants had a line leader just as we 2nd graders need to follow our teachers and God.
