English Class
In the beginning of November, students received notes about thesis statements and the expository essay. Also, new Vocabulary words, definitions, and example sentences were given. Lastly, students chose one of their favorite Vocab. words so far to illustrate.

The 11th grade classes have been using Microsoft Power Point to show their creative side. They designed 2 slides each, for our whole class slide show, which reveals what they consider to be most important thing to them. We have also begun practicing questions for the US History regents which they will take in June 2010. The students are practicing their on-line researching skills along with their ability to site internet sources correctly when they use information from a site.

The 7th and 8th grade classes have been learning how to use Microsoft Excel this month. We have timed our own heart beats and created a spreadsheet and graph of our class’ number of heart beats in a minute both before and after exercising. The students have also made a spreadsheet that finds the class’ average number of blinks in a minute! We are currently working on learning how to create word searches and crossword puzzles using the Excel program.

The students have chosen which design and color they like for each sentence in our project. Soon we will begin learning about the eye to reinforce what they are learning in science class.

Students have been learning how to use the keyboard this month. They are practicing using Ctrl + Alt + Del to log-on to their computers. We are even working on our typing skills. Figuring out which one is the space bar, enter, delete, shift and backspace keys has been very exciting. The students are learning how and when to use each one. We are also discovering how to change font, its size, and color.
