Both pre-k classes have been having a great time listening to stories written by Bill Martin Jr. We have read Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? And Polar Bear Polar Bear What Do You Hear? They have also colored pictures of the animals in the stories and have listened to the sounds that these animals make in the computer. We have had an awesome time.

The Cosmetology elective is more than just make up application. Students are learning about different skin types and how to properly treat their skin. Students are learning about natural skin cleansers and scrubs and have made these natural products during their class time. Our students look forward to learning techniques on theatrical makeup, as well as children’s face painting in the next couple of weeks.

FREEDOM CRY – an original short one-act play by David Ham
Freedom Cry takes a close look at Mary’s life in the time of great transition and change.
In a modern and present viewpoint, this play explores the possible peer pressures and conflict Mary faced while a teenager, engaged, pregnant and a virgin. This play, along with the inserts of poetic shorts, ultimately demonstrates the power of God’s favor and peace in the time of great challenge.
Fashion Elective- The Fashion elective is gearing up for a fashion show at our upcoming High School Christmas Program. Under the direction of fashion designer and highschool senior, Diana Rodriguez, students are being measured and fitted by one of kind designs. So far our designer has created fall/winter dresses for female models and blazers for male models from our 11th and 12th grade classes.

I am pleased to introduce Beginner Mandarin elective class this year. We are going to learn some basic conversations (greetings, introducing yourself, and friends), and to learn how to read and write simple Chinese characters, numbers (1-1000), days, months, week, and birthdays. A group activity will be taking place such as: practicing conversation with your partners, introducing your family to your classmates, and singing songs in Chinese. Not only that, but we will be watching a biography of Gladys Aylward movie, and learn some facts from China Today every week. Always remember the three nuggets for learning a new language: set a side a few minutes every day to memorize new words, repeat-repeat-repeat, and find a friend to practice if you can not practice by yourself. See you at class!

Since we are learning vocabulary associated with food this month, we have been doing some exercises that deal with the same. The students had to write their favorite recipe in Spanish including ingredients and preparation process and then spend one class day tasting the delicious dishes. Everyone brought a dish in and shared it with their classmates as they presented it orally in class. I must say it was a satisfying class!

This month we began a chapter that deals with train travel. The students have begun a special project that will help them exercise their vocabulary learned. We are making a model, poster
or collage of a train station labeling every part of it and will be presenting it in class. Students are required to do the presentation in Spanish and give a step by step explanation of their experience traveling by train. It should be interesting to see the final product and to hear them practicing their Spanish with their peers!

What if you had the opportunity to build your very own castle? What would it look like? How would you defend it? That’s exactly what our 10th grade global classes had the opportunity to do as we we studied the unit on the Rise of Europe. We discussed the beginnings of Feudalism and the Manor economy. Students also looked at the lives of peasants, knights and the Germanic Tribes.
