In September we started the school year well! In the first few weeks of class, we mainly

focused on reviewing what the students had learned the prior year to get a better handle on

the upcoming lessons. The textbook we are using is called “Buen Viaje” and so far we have

covered the chapters dealing with, school supplies, friends and family, sports, travel, vacationing and health. There is a focus on both vocabulary and verb structure. The class seems to be progressing well!

Come to Pre-K3 on Tuesdays and you’ll be involved in “Station Day.” Children are separated into groups of two and works at a particular station. Every 15-20 minutes the child cleans up and rotates into another station. We have the playdough station with cookie cutters and a whole bunch of assortments to decorate and build with playdough. Art station consists of a craft and they are also able to freely express their artistic abilities by creating collages with glitter, sequence, crayons, markers, pompoms, craft sticks, stickers, etc. At the sand station students can play with animals that belong in the sand and create a desert. Next is the water and bubble station where children must determine what objects sink or float. Our next station is the chalk station where they use different color chalks to draw pictures and express there imagination. We also have a puzzle station where a more difficult puzzle is displayed and they must use team work to solve it. We also set out a board game station, usually memory games to also encouraging sharing, taking turns, and communication. Last but not least we have a sewing and lacing station to enhance fine motor skills. Overall this is a very messy but fun day of the week for us. The kids love it.

“Bring Your Favorite Stuffed Animal to School Day!”

What better way to enjoy school than with your favorite furry friend?  That’s exactly what students in grades Pre-K3 through 5th got to do on Tuesday, September 29.  Students and teachers were encouraged to bring their most beloved friend to show off during the day.  Children excitedly placed their favorite animals on their desks as they worked hard throughout the day.  “Bring Your Favorite Stuffed Animal to School Day!” – just another way we get to know each other a little bit better here at Evangel Christian School!  Check out the cute and cuddly pictures in the gallery section of our website!

Fitness Workouts and Circuit Training

September has been a month dedicated to fitness workouts. Students began their second week of P.E. with circuit training, where they went through various stations such as pushups, sit ups, hurdles, cones, wall squats, etc. Students not only learned the proper way to exercise, but they began to realize why exercising is so important in their daily lives.

In Earth Science we are learning all about Minerals and Rocks, from how minerals form, to how to identify them by testing for streaks, density, hardness and looking at the structure for cleavage and fractures. Students are fascinated!! It’s awesome to explore the world that our God has created.

In Bible Class 9th Grade has been talking about Creation, more specifically how God created everything perfect in the beginning and how sin altered things. During September we looked at Creation and the Crisis and in October we will be looking at the calling and Christ

MLHS Tournament

This previous Saturday the Lady Eagles Girls Varsity Volleyball team participated in a tournament held at Martin Luther High School. The Lady Eagles entered this tournament with high expectations and would settle for nothing but the best. In a series of short scrimmages the Eagles came out first in their pool. They then played a challenging match against the second place team of pool number 2. By playing as a team and working together the Lady Eagles won the match and moved on to the championship. The championship game was played against the host of the tournament themselves, Martin Luther High School , this game was the best game of the day by far, with both teams giving it only their best. With great serves by Amanda Pabon, beautiful spikes by Karas Bonifas and Amanda Roque, great sets by Jennifer Herrera and Natalia Alverez, and awesome passes by the whole team, the Lady Eagles came out victorious as the CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! Special awards given out were:

All Conference: Amanda Roque, Amanda Pabon, and Jennifer Herrera

MVP: Becky Wong

Fall greetings from the Middle School and High School Resource Room! This year we are blessed to have Mrs. Cathy Hampton join our team. She has wonderfully stepped in to help as Evangel’s Resource Center has grown. She is a special asset in assisting the international students in all classes.

As the year started students came with a great sense of expectation, positive attitudes and high goals. In Resource we are setting the groundwork for success first through prayer and second by covering the Building Blocks to School success. This includes but isn’t limited to study skills (SQ3R), reading skills (finding the main idea), Learning Styles Assessments (visual, tactile, auditory), how to take good notes and how to read the textbooks effectively.

It is a blessing to have students from all over the world at Evangel. Our international students represent interesting and varied countries of the world such as China, Indonesia, Korea, Peru, Philippines, Switzerland, Venezuela, and Viet Nam, and many more. Locating their home countries on our classroom map, gave all of the students a chance to discuss the distance to the United States. Becoming familiar with American Idioms has been challenging but it helps with both their conversation and written English skill building. As they discuss their assignments, we might say that some of the answers “are on the tip of your tongue” as a way to practice the use of idioms in conversation. There are many new things to teach and learn for everyone.

Prek-3 has been doing a phenomenal job, considering the fact that they have completed only one month of school. We have been focusing on the letter A, color red, numbers zero and one, and the circle. This month has been a very crafty, hands-on month and we have also been learning all about God’s Creation. We have done sensory A’s using small alphabet sprinkles to trace the capital letter A. We have done apple prints to reinforce both the color red and the fact that God created food for us to eat. We have also made apple peanut butter smiles, Oh were they yummy. The children loved them so much that they wanted to eat more and more. They even wanted their mommies and daddies to make some. Overall we have kicked off the New School Year with a bright, creative, and fun start. I look forward to next month where we will focus on learning the letter B, continuing the circle, numbers zero, one, and two, the color gray, and the story of David and Goliath.
