President Obama’s Inaguration was an eye opener. Our second graders had the oportunity to see President Obama’s Inauguration in class. It was an exciting time for us because we were studying the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Our kids were able to see that Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality was a reality when Presidet Obama became the First Black President.

Praise the Lord! God has been answering the prayers of our little ones. Dads and moms are being healed! Our little ones are anxious to put their prayer requests in our prayer box, as God is becoming real in their lives.
Students have been reading short stories in their “Of Places” textbooks. They’ve been answering comprehension questions and focusing on the elements of a story (setting, point of view, characters, rising action, conflict, climax, resolution, and theme). Finally, students have completed several stories (on their own, personal reading level) in their SRA booklets.

Students have been reading the novel Old Yeller in class and at home, as well as enjoying class discussion. They have been answering comprehension questions and completing vocabulary strengthening activities. Finally, we read an article about hydrophobia also known as rabies, answered questions, and discussed its relevance in relation to our novel.

All classes have been working on an autobiographical narrative (making revisions, adding similes, adjectives, and transition words). Students created many, original similes on their own and then illustrated one in color; these are posted on the bulletin boards. We also began working on poetry and rhyme schemes. Students wrote a poem about school at least eight lines long and made it rhyme. I am very proud of our Middle Schoolers. Great Job Guys!

In Physics, students have been studying the physical and mathematical properties of sound waves. Our lab activities have been exciting and quite “hands-on”, and also help to deeper our understanding of the concepts we are studying.
In chemistry students have been studying phase diagrams & vapor pressure graphs. They can determine the phase of a particular substance based on the given conditions.

Sophomores have been studying areas of polygons and sectors. They can now calculate the areas of many shapes.

The Juniors have been working with growth and decay functions. They have calculated how fast their money grows and the depreciation on a new car. We finished our topic with an M&M lab in which the students generated the data for their own growth and decay functions. When they were done they happily ate all their manipulatives.
