james_and_giant_peachOur second grade students learned a valuable lesson when we went to Manhattan to see the play “James and the Giant Peach.” They learned that we are special. Even if others mistreat us, we need to accept ourselves. Just as James overcame the verbal abuse he endured in his aunt’s household, we also can overcome obstacles. He was able to escape and reach a place where he was accepted, but in order to get there he had to be creative and believe in himself. After losing his parents and being mistreated by his aunts, James embarked on an incredible journey. James had an adventure inside a peach with a spider, a ladybug, a centipede, and a grasshopper. After surviving the sharks, the seagulls, and the tremendous sea, they found themselves in Manhattan. They found a place where they were accepted just as we are. Our students completely enjoyed the trip. Some enjoyed the bumpy ride to the city, while others were thrilled with the opportunity to sing songs of praise. There were a few who took a nap while others looked at our beautiful skyscrapers. Some of the other things our students enjoyed were: seeing James go inside the peach, watching the bugs dance, and seeing how James and the bugs waved at the dangerous sharks. They also remembered that the bugs were in the middle of the ocean but did not know how to swim. They also liked to see the bugs eating the giant peach. Overall it was a wonderful experience for our second graders as they learned a valuable lesson- God made us special!

All 9th grade homerooms helped put together an amazing performance that reached our student body in an intense way. This skit demonstrated how each of us wear different masks to hide our true identity, but when we turn to Jesus we find out who we are in Him.sy9v0mcam2waudcac6a69bca69tyuccaoeqptycaalm3igca8inpplcaodb0dlcavgwwfhcazv6dolcaum8ycrcad7k1i5cas6a6j7candofdecaoy0pzcca80wnudcay0svqsca11mikucafrpld5

News Flash 5E “Goes Green” in honor of Earth Day we opened up our class room blinds and let the sun shine in and turned off the lights for about 5 min. We saved about a few dollars of electricity. What else can we do to save energy? Hmmm, being that we are the future of tomorrow we began to journal, “If we were inventors, what kind of inventions could we make to solve some of our world problems?” From a shrink/growth ray to a transformable vehicle that fits the need for every family except does not use gas. 5E cares about the world we live in and has raised awareness about Global warming. We agreed that if we could plant a tree to make a difference we would.

This month we had fun with a chapter called “Los Pasatiempos” (favorite pass times).
The vocabulary learned dealt with different types of hobbies, sports and things that people like to do in their spare time. The students enjoyed some class time playing board games and trying to converse in Spanish while they were being competitive. It was fun and a good speaking practice for them.

This month we read a short story called “Mi querida Cunada” which the kids seemed to enjoy very much. We practiced reading aloud and independently and had interesting discussions in class. The students did a lot of compositional writing describing what they understood of the story.
