This year has been very exciting in Art. Students have learned a lot this year from Art History to the culture of others’ art work. Here are a few highlights of the year:
· High School for the fall semester learned to paint. They learned about painting still life and the different effects of acrylic paint. The fall semester was Digital Photography. They not only learned how to take pictures but how to manipulate them on a computer by using Adobe Photoshop.

· Sixth grade made a patchwork quilt where each square represented themselves as individuals. They then put it together on the bulletin board as their class project.
· Seventh grade learned about Tessellations. It was very hard for them but once they got it they did an awesome job.
· Eighth grade: 8C created beautiful landscape paintings using watercolor techniques and applied this to their “Hnadscape” pictures. 8R created sculptures out of saran-wrap and packaging tape. The tape held the sculptures together and to give it a solid look.

· Pre-K learned a lot of new things from learning about design and how to create a collage. The most exciting thing they enjoyed was their marshmallow/pretzel sculpture and worms in dirt mixture they made and ate.
· Kindergarten this year learned a lot about themselves and how they saw themselves. They made wire sculptures and large drawings of themselves.
· First grade learned about architecture. They leaned that every structure has a foundation to help support the building. With this they studied old castles and drew what their fairytale castle would look like.
· Second grade learned about overlapping and designing. They used this knowledge to create a name design where their name was the focal point of the design.
· Third grade learned about what a mola is. They learned that a lot of Indian, aboriginal and Spanish cultures use these types of symbolic pictures to tell stories and as a decoration. They then created their own type of mola.
· Fourth grade learned about self-expression by using multimedia. Multimedia is drawing, paper collage, magazine pictures and or painting to depict themselves. They did a wonderful job.
· Fifth grade had an art history lesson on the artist Piet Mondrian. They saw examples of his work and how it changed over time when he learned the different genres of Art. They then created their own style of Mondrian’s work.
This month we have had the joy of looking at the caterpillar’s life. Each day our boys and girls would peek in the closet to see the changes in the caterpillar’s life. They were thrilled when they finally saw the beautiful butterflies flying around in the cage. This reminded us of how great our God is. He made all of us beautiful!
On April 7, 2008 Mrs. Marko, Mr. Marko, Andrew Marko, Mrs. Perez, Mr. Prawel and 28 high school students left for a 10 day mission trip to Spain! They stayed at the Betel Facility in Madrid. While they were there, they helped with the local gypsies, painted and did maintenance at different Betel facilities, did street evangelism and ministered at local churches with drama and skits. They were also able to get in some sightseeing.
We were finally able to hold our Annual Jog-A-Thon on Friday, May 23. After several rain postponements, we had a beautiful day to run. Our Pre-K 3 and 4 students ran their legs off in the gym with the top runners going 42 laps! We had a three way tie with Melissa Fernandez (PK3), Ishaan Baksh (PK3), and Ismael Ruin (PK4) all running 42 laps. Our Elementary, Middle and High students enjoyed running outside at the track at Astoria Park. Our top Elementary boy and girl runners were Jonathan Lara (2C) running 19 laps and Jennifer Munoz (3C) running 17 laps. In Middle and High School our top runners were Jhonnathan Paiva (7W) with 26 laps and Kharyn Ethridge (6K) with an amazing 30 laps! Congratulations to everyone for sending out your labels and running the laps. The top three students for bringing in the most money are: First Place – Elizabeth Glover (10D) $1,12.00; Second Place – Keith Rogers (6M) $515.00 and Third Place – Josh Laureta (Pre-K 3) $395.00. So far the Jog-A-Thon has brought in over $15,000.00.
Students at Evangel showed their love as they brought in their change and dollars to fill their class Love Box during the months of March and April. Each class had a World Vision catalog where they could choose something to purchase to send around the world to those less fortunate. As a school, we collected over $1,000.00. Our top class, 4L collected almost $200 just by themselves. Some of the items we were able to send were 18 chickens, 15 ducks, 1 goat, a share of a bull and alpaca, a fishing kit, seeds, blankets, Bibles, a share of a traditional well and treadle pump, soccer balls and help with programs for orphans, exploited girls and Aids prevention. It was a blessing to see the excitement in the students’ faces as they brought in their gifts.
Evangel hosted the ACSI Math Olympics again this year with six school participating involving over 100 students. Reasoning – Third Grade: Jennifer Munoz (Fourth Place), Leslie Aguilar (Fifth Place); Fourth Grade: Elijah Colon (Fourth Place), Lucas Gomes (Third Place); Fifth Grade: Daniel Camargo (Fourth Place), Carl Roberts (Second Place); Sixth Grade: Keoana Arnett (Third Place), Wesley Bryant; Eighth Grade: Frances Bautista(Third Place), Dana Gibbs.
Our Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team finished in 2nd place with 10 wins and 5 losses and were the Playoff champions! The Boys Varsity team finished in 3rd place with 11 wins and 9 losses and made it to the Semi Finals in the Playoffs. Special recognition went to the following: Playoffs MVP – Daniel Copersino; All Conference Players – Craig Bender, Luis Alers, Daniel Copersino; All division Players – David Slater, Jonathan Bonifas, Daniel Suarez, Timothy Velez, Geordan Gibson. Congratulations to both teams! Our Girls basketball team finished in 3rd place with 5 wins and 5 losses and went all the way to the Semi Finals in the Playoffs. Special awards were given to Anel Paulino – All Conference Player and Karis Bonifas – All Division Player.
