kv-grad-program-208 Twenty-four miniature graduates, dressed in blue gradaution gowns and graduation hats, walked down the aisle of the church sanctuary to “Pomp and Circumstance”. How adorable is that? There was a flash of camera lights as parents and friends went “crazy” over them. The graduates sang a song and recited all of the ten verses they heard learned. Wow, that was amazing! What a wonderful time we had. All the graduates were given an adorable stuffed graduation bear attached to a helium balloon. Now, they’re off to First Grade.
Forty-six eighth graders graduated on June 21st at 11:00am in the Chrch Sanctuary. Dressed in beautiful maroon gowns for the boys and gold gowns for the girls, they walked down the aisle to “Pomp and Circumstance”. The Valedictorian, Joel Singh, and the Salutatorian, Kendra Ellis, gave their speeches. Each addressed their classmates and encouraged them to continue to follow the Lord and put Him first in everything that they do. Mr. Agosto sang, “The Impossible Dream, and Mrs. Rosario danced to “In Christ Alone”. This song is so special because it’s message is so profound: “Now I seek no greater honor than just to know Him more.” Pastor Andy spoke to the graduates and challenged them to remain true to the Lord. He reminded them that God has a special plan for each one of them. He also shared that God is our strength and He will never fail us. Haley Strong, the Class Representative lit the class candle. Awards were given and Diplomas recieved. Each graduate was given a terrific Youth Bible. See you in September on the Fourth Floor (our High School Floor).
5th-grade-program On June 19th at 11:00am, twenty-six Fith Graders “Stepped Up” into Middle School. Students were dressed in suits and gowns and simply looked fantastic. The boys escorted the girls down the aisle as they walked in to “Pomp and Circumstance”. Jodell Galezo and Elizabeth Hyde read Scripture and then the class sang “Lord You are Good” as Mr. Agosto played the piano. Awards were given and then Diplomas were received. Graduates were given a Middle School Gym Bag with a Middle School Gym T-Shirt. We are very proud of our Fifth Graders and are excited for them as they enter Middle School. They are super excited about getting a locker and switching classrooms. See in September on the third floor (our Middle School Floor).
I had the awesome responsibility and pleasure of teaching Elementary and Middle School music this past term and was so blessed!In Middle School students created a project which asked them to analyze critically 4 pieces of music (2 classical and 2 contemporary), describing the music in detail: composer, key, style, etc. Additionally, they were asked to compose their own piece of music. We have some really outstanding composers in our midst. All in all, we had a blast and I really believe God was blessed.
I had the awesome responsibility and pleasure of teaching Elementary and Middle School music this past term and was so blessed!Elementary students were exposed to classical music, new instruments, and shared the joy of music-making. Pre-K through First Grade learned rhythm, pitch and how to sing together in their “singing voices”. Second through Fifth grades learned how to sing in harmony and learned about Opera. They even created a story for an opera (called a libretto) based on their favorite fairy tale.
The eleventh graders were very anxious about their class. They were studying Spanish literature from its beginning to the present. From beginning to end, this class was a struggle but we had fun. When we were reading about the clash of two worlds and the writing of the time from both the Spaniards and the people in the New World the class had to act out the encounter. The students prepared for days. They were in costumes; they had dialogs and were armed with props and chocolate “gold” coins (we still don’t know why someone ate them). The results were magnificent and hilarious.
The tenth graders were able to learn about the different cultures that make up the Hispanic cultures. They were able to experience the differences from one place to another and to correct their thinking. The Hispanic world is very diverse in customs, clothing, food, celebrations, etc. The one thing that unites us is the language, and even in that there are differences. The children learned to appreciate and respect those differences in the cultures and in us.
The eight graders went through their work at a very steady pace. They had to prepare for the Spanish proficiency test. We had our good days and our not so good days. The days they practiced their conversations they were very nervous. The day they had to speak for the test they did well past my expectations. After the examination was over we could really say: “the Lord has helped us, thus far”.
Seventh grade presented itself with a lot of challenges. We moved from everyday social language into studying the language itself. The verbs are difficult, the nouns have rules, adjective have to agree with the nouns, our pet “bee” Sparky, flew out the window, twice; the list goes on. We worked at it, a lot, and we made it. We had fun in the process and learned new things and new games. We are ready for whatever the eight grade brings.
In our classroom we read many stories. A few of them we even acted out as a drama activity. The story that we preformed was Henry and Mudge. The students added comedy to their performance which made it quiet enjoyable.
In Math, the students creatively developed their very own word problems. In Science, they studied the life cycle of a plant. In Bible, we developed our characters in the Kingdom of God. They learned that it was important to help others, but most of all, how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
This year was full of creativity, hands-on learning, and the joy of self-discovery. With these tools packed safely away, the 2nd graders leave Evangel this summer with a pocket full of knowledge that they can take with them to the 3rd grade.
