Stuffed Animal Day
“Where the Wild Things Are,” & “Corduroy,” are just a couple of the books students got to hear at our first Literacy Day this year. Literacy day is a day to show students how much fun reading is. At our first literacy day, students brought in their favorite stuffed animal and cuddled up with it in our new library as they heard fun and exciting stories. We are looking forward to next month, “Fall Fun,” as students hear adventurous stories about the change of season.

There are still amazing people in our community who give their time, heart and compassion to invest in the children of Long Island City and the surrounding neighborhoods!
Evangel Christian School is pleased to reinstate our boys Middle School basketball sports program for students from 6th to 8th Grade, we are so happy to be a part of the Q.S.A.A.L. League started by Mr. Dwayne Cumberbatch. The Evangel team is off to an amazing start in their first season with a 6-1 record! This team was started in large part due to the volunteer coaching provided by our amazing coach and community supporters, Mr. Peter Garcia who for years has volunteered and coached for our local YMCA in Long Island City. These gentlemen truly care about this community and continue to give back to it by investing in the young people of Long Island City and the surrounding neighborhoods
“We are just so thrilled for our students and thankful to our new coaches dedication and willingness to be mentors. Their volunteer efforts do more than just provide a basketball team, they help keep youth busy in the hours after school when a parent is typically working and also provides these children with a safe and fun place to go on the weekends. This basketball team continues to build on the sense of community created at Evangel and is a wonderful blessing for our school and the community. Not to mention this is an amazing start to a first year program, 6-1 in the first season is just outstanding!” Principal Marko said.

MLHS Tournament
This previous Saturday (10/3/09) the Lady Eagles Girls Varsity Volleyball team participated in a tournament held at Martin Luther High School. The Lady Eagles entered this tournament with high expectations and would settle for nothing but the best. In a series of short scrimmages the Eagles came out first in their pool. They then played a challenging match against the second place team of pool number 2. By playing as a team and working together the Lady Eagles won the match and moved on to the championship. The championship game was played against the host of the tournament themselves, Martin Luther High School, this game was the best game of the day by far, with both teams giving it only their best. With great serves by Ladies Eagles team: Amanda, beautiful spikes by Karas and Amanda, great sets by Jennifer and Natalia , and awesome passes by the whole team, under the amazing leadership of Coach Wong the Lady Eagles came out victorious as the CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!

Cards for Haiti
Students at Evangel Christian School in kindergarten through 5th grade created over 120 pictures and cards to let the children of Haiti know that they are loved and not forgotten!
The students have been praying everyday for the children of Haiti and we wanted to put our prayers into action! So the students made cards and pictures and collected a donation for the families in Haiti.
Our prayer is that these cards of encouragement will be hung all around the country of Haiti in the NEW SCHOOLS that will be built for the children! God bless you Haiti and we love you!
Even in this economy there are still those who will sacrifice and give because they see the value in investing in children and they see the value in increasing the technology in the classrooms! Truly our students are our investment in the future! So with that we say thank you to the local businesses and parents below for donating to our auctions. Amazingly in this economy our 2009 Auctions raised $4,000! Which will go directly into the class rooms increasing technology through the purchase of LCD projectors. Mr. Marko was the best!
Thank you also to our parents for supporting our auctions through bidding on items! We had a lot of fun and it is exciting to see the community at large standing by Evangel Christian School and investing in our students!
