Congratulations
In December, 30 of our students entered writing pieces into the Association of Christian Schools International’s annual Creative Writing Festival. Two of those students, Alahna Dones (11th) and Angelie Cesario (8th), received marks of Superior (the highest possible) in the district level which qualified their poems to be sent to the regional level for adjudication.
We are proud to announce that at the regional level, Alahna Dones was awarded a Superior ribbon and Angelie Cesario was awarded with a mark of Excellent. Alahna’s spoken word poem entitled Freedom in Christ will be published in a book ACSI distributes to school’s across the country, while Angelie’s poem Tell, will be published online.
Congratulations to both Alahna and Angelie! Evangel is very proud of you!

Congratulations
On April 30, 2010, Samantha Byrne (8th), Angelie Cesario (8th), Jerry Meng (7th), and Kristina Papacostas (8th) represented Evangel Christian School at the annual Association of Christian Schools International Junior High Speech Meet. These four students worked hard to memorize works from the Dramatic Reading, Dramatic Poetry, or Humorous Reading categories. There were two rounds with different judges the students had to recite their pieces to, using only their voice and emotion to convey the author’s thoughts. Each of our students brought home a rating of Good and was awarded with a ribbon and certificates and the awards ceremony. We are so proud of our Speech Meet Team and look forward to continuing to build it up and enter more categories in the future! Be sure to see the pictures from the day’s event in our website gallery.

Elementary and Middle School students worked long and hard to prepare for Evangel Christian School’s annual Speech Meet. Students selected various forms of speech such as Bible scripture or a poem to recite. They were judged on how well they present their piece using just their voices to convey the feeling of their work.
Evangel congratulates all of the students who participated.

On March 3rd Evangel hosted the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) Math Olympics. Six Christian schools participated in the event, and a total of 104 math scholars from third through eighth grade competed. Elementary students from each elementary grade met with Mrs. Ruiz weekly during their lunch/recess period to practice for the Olympics and were given extra homework to help them prepare. Middle School students met with Mr. Boyd and Mrs. Christian weekly for training. The Math Olympics consists of a series of timed tests in the areas of either computation or reasoning. At the awards ceremony following the competition the top five students from each grade in each category received an award. Be sure to check out the photos in our photoblog!
