Mr. Fowler’s Economics class has just recently finished the Stock Market Game. Six of the eight teams from 12W finished within the top fifty percentile, one team came in 138 out of 770 teams. I was very impressed with how well the students did and how they would research new products and look at how the market was doing. This game was a lot of fun and I hope that these students will in the future make investments with real money and understand the ideas and concepts that go into our Stock Market. We are working on Supply and Demand right now in class, which is a key concept in economics. The students have been coming up with their own examples of how the laws of demand and supply can be seen in America today.
In Global class the 9th graders have been discussing Muslim civilization. This has been a particularly interesting topic as we have heard so much about the Muslim faith in the past couple of years. First we talked about some of the core beliefs in Islam and compared those to that of Judaism and Christianity. One of my goals has been to dispel any stereotypes of this religion but give them an unbiased view of another world religion. It has given way to interesting discussions within class. As well, we have gone over Middle East geography in class, much to the dislike of the students. However, we have talked about why it is so important to discuss geography and understand the world in which we live.
This is a very interesting elective. Here students act out a song as mimes. They portray the love of Christ with each movement. Right now they are practicing for their Christmas Program. The name of the song that they are actingout is “Every Man” by Casting Crowns. They are also working on “Who am I” by wearing white gloves that show up under a black light. Come and see our program!!!
During Thanksgiving week our school had many celebrations that included food and lots of fun. Fourth and Fifth grade had truly traditional Feasts. Students dressed as Pilgrims and Indians, gave thanks, and ate lots and lots of yummy food. Middle School and High School had huge feasts in the Fellowship Hall. There was a bounty of food, talent, and giving of thanks to the Lord for His many blessings. A great time was had by all. Make sure to “check out” galleries for lots of great pics.
