Each child made a poster encouraging people to be volunteers in their community. Their posters turned out great! Some students even had pictures of how they helped out in their own community. Come by and check out our Social Studies corner and see the great posters.

Our Elementary Spring Celebration took place on Sunday, May 3rd. What a wonderful celebration it was; singing, dancing, drama, testimonies, and Scripture verses were all part of this fantastic event. Pre-K3, Pre-K4 and Kindergarten sang, “Clap your hands all you people” and a Jewish song that means we bring you peace. First and Second Grades sang “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” The Junior Dance Team danced to “Holy Spirit, Reign Down” dressed in white and purple with purple and silver streamers. “The Eighth Dwarf” is the adorable play that the Junior Drama Team performed at the celebration. Through this drama we learned that God made us and loves us all, despite our shortcomings. At the end of the play the dwarfs asked Snow White and the eighth dwarf, forgetful, to dance with them to a fantastic song entitled, “I am not Forgotten.” To finish the celebration our Junior Chorus sang “He Knows My Name” and the Junior Dance Team danced to a song about God being our Strong Tower. A big thank you to all students and staff for making this celebration so spectacular and glorifying God in song, dance and drama.

Our elementary school had its first “Literacy Day: Tales by the Campfire” event. Our fellowship hall was transformed into a campground with stars and a moon dangling from the ceiling, six-foot forest trees, a sleeping tent, and a wonderful faux campfire, which the kids were really excited about. Each class was able to gather around the “fire”, snuggle in their blankets and hold tight to their teddy bears as they were read a series of children’s books by some of our staff and student leaders.

Each class was not only treated to stories by the campfire, but our helpful high school students performed two musicals inspired by two classic children’s books, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Three Little Pigs. This was the highlight for most of the little ones, who especially loved the big bad wolf (he was a silly, not scary wolf!)

The PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) generously donated a new book for each class and encouraged all of our students to participate in the Book Fair taking place the following day. Mrs. Barillas, president of PTF was so excited to have this event take place a day prior to the book sale. “I really believe this event helped get the students excited about reading and it seemed to help boost our book sales tremendously!”

Mrs. Marko was so excited to hear such great responses from our students and staff, she decided we should end the school year with another day of reading encouragement. In June we will have an event called, “Literacy Day: Beach, Bonfire and Books!”

It was truly a successful event for all!

Please check out galleries for some great pics.

spider_pinch_hr“Spiders at Work” taught us that: Black Widows are poisonous, Daddy Long Legs have two very long legs, Spiders are helpful animals and catch insects in their webs. Wow! Spiders are an one of God’s awesome creations!

earthdayStudents in 3G are borrowing chapter books to prepare themselves for fourth grade and to challenge themselves to read longer books. We also spoke about earth day and they wrote about ways in which we can help our environment. They wrote about having Hybrid cars and riding scooters or bikes to school instead of cars. We can also help by planting trees which provide us with oxygen. They read, “The Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” Genesis 2:15 and focused on this verse while they wrote about helping their environment.

In 3rd grade we read, “What’s Wrong with Timmy?” by Maria Shriver. This was a special book that we read in their classroom when I visited them for one of our library periods. This book is great because it teaches our kids to be more compassionate to those that have special needs. It teaches them to not feel awkward around persons with disabilities because they are just like any one of us.

The Third Grade Academic Fair was a smashing success. Parents had a great time visiting and tasting great food from all over the world. They also noted how well informed each student was. All the boards were colorful and the students answered all their questions with perfection! Hoorah!

mister_pc_silly_hg_clrElementary has learned many new things in the computer lab this month. We have been using a new program to increase their skills and reinforce what they are learning in their classrooms. The students are having a blast and the younger students can’t even tell they are learning the alphabet and math at the same time.

Singing, Dancing, Eating, Rapping, Performing, and Sharing were all a part of our Academic Fair which took place on Thursday, March19 th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. What an exciting evening it was for all – students and visitors alike. Students in all grades had been working feverishly since January on their projects and reports and as you walked aroung the school the aroma of wonderful foods filled the air. Foods from India, Africa, Guatemala, and many, many more countires were represented. THe sounds of students talking with visitors, projects humming, music playing, and students reciting were all sounds that filled that evening. There were many different sections to the Fair: Technolgy, Dance, Art, Science, History, Health, Bible, English, Home Ec., Countries, and many more. Many students dressed up to represent a certain person, or country; there were also scientific dissections to witness. Students were so excited as they got the chance to explain their projects and research to our visitors – nearly 1,000! What a great job all teachers, staff, parents and students did! We applaud you and can’t wait until next year!
