1c has been exploring lobsters! We have been learning some very interesting details about these crustaceans. After we examined and discussed these creatures we put our thinking to work through drawings, number sentences and words, as we solved Lobster Picture Problems in groups and individually

1c made their own personal Number Corner Calendar. The children were asked to figure out their own equations for the day’s date. They were encouraged to use visual models of our calendar, ten strips and hundred grids to illustrate their own charts. They were given the opportunity to walk over to our wall display of the calendar and count and discuss with their classmates. They really enjoyed this time to do it on their own!!!

We just finished reading the story “Tumble Bumble” inReading Lab. The students practiced putting the animals in order of when they appeared in the story, this reinforces sequencing. They also acted out the stories with picture puppets. We had a lot of fun. Mrs. Bienemann

We have been studying sight words. As the children are able to recognize more sight words they are able to read more. We have learned a total of 30 words now and everyone is doing well. The children are very eager to stand up and read words. They are becoming more and more comfortable reading out loud. 1st Graders, keep reading and have your parents keep reading to you. Elementary School’s Christmas Program took place on Friday, December 12, 2008 – “Through the Eyes of the Friendly Beasts”. Third through fifth grade elective classes performed the drama, dance and chorus part of the program. Pre-school were dressed up as the world’s cutest angels. Kindergartners were the kings and brought gifts to Baby Jesus. First and second graders were shepherds out in the fields keeping watch over their flocks.

This program had us view the Christmas Story through the eyes of the animals that were present that Holy Night. The Sanctuary was filled with parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and many friends. Over 700 were in attendance.

Please check out “Galleries” to view some really cute pictures.
