First grade here we come!
These are the words coming out of my kindergarten students. They have had an awesome year full of learning, laughs and excitement. I am very proud of the Kindergarten students. They have grown not only academically but also spiritually and in stature. The last couple of months have been full of fun and many learning experiences. The kids were able to go on their graduation trip to Astoria Bowl where they shared laughs together with their family and friends. We also had our last publishing party where the kids shared their last pieces of writing; the theme was dialogues. I’m very happy for all the support that I received from the parents as they came month after month to listen to their kid’s stories.
I want to thank every student and parent. I have enjoyed having each of them in my class. I have learned many things from them and I will miss them very much.
Congratulations graduating class of 2013

We had a wonderful Spring Program. Elementary students danced to Shout to the Lord, with streamers. The middle school danced to Go Fast, and high school danced and ministered the songs that they did in Hawaii. The high school electives also danced to I’m Free.

Field Day
Students had fun doing relay races with obstacle courses. They also did their annual physical fitness test. At the end of the school year we had a field day in the gym.

Poetry
For writer’s workshop we have been studying different types of poetry and the different things that inspire poets, such as people, objects, places, and nature. During this unit we took a class trip to the Botanical Gardens. Students were able to see firsthand how and why poets get inspired by nature as they experienced it themselves. When we returned to school students wrote a poem about what inspired them the most on our trip (flowers, trees, insects, fish, ponds) in whatever form they liked: haiku, rhyming, free verse, etc.
The connection- at the end of our units of science and writing, students wrote poems about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Butterflies
Fourth grade has been making a science and writing connection. In science we have been exploring the life cycle of butterflies. We have observed and studied 20 butterfly larvae (caterpillars) and watched them eat and grow until they went into their chrysalis, where most of their metamorphosis takes place. Finally, the beautiful butterflies emerged and we released them outside to find new habitats.

This has been such an amazing school year.
The almost second graders have grown to be confident readers and writers. They came to school each day enthusiastic and ready to learn.
We took a journey to Antarctica measuring and weighing penguins. We became farmers purchasing land and animals for our model farms. We became scientists and discovered how our body systems work for us. We became researchers and discussed great inventors and how their scientific discoveries changed our world. We explored the past from ancient civilizations to the early exploration of the American West.
Our favorite time in first grade was sharing our writing pieces during our monthly Publishing Parties.
The end of the year is always a bittersweet time. We are looking forward to our summer break but will miss our time together.

School Is Fun
There are many reasons why I like second grade. The kids are really friendly. I’ve made loads of friends. Our second grade teachers are really nice. They make learning fun and help us do our best. Our class work is fun. I especially enjoy art class because we get to paint, draw, color, and make projects. I also enjoy doing research and playing games in computer class. I’m only about half way through my first year at Evangel. I have already learned so many new things. My teachers are great. They are really good at showing us new things in a way that makes stuff easy to learn. I’m so blessed to have such great teachers and to be part of such a wonderful class. I’m excited about my future here at Evangel.

Simple Machines
Second grade is doing a Academic Fair project on Simple Machines. These include pulleys, inclined plane, screw, lever, and wheel and axle. Second grade is going to ask questions, do research and make models about their projects. It’s so much fun.

Caroling Trip
The month of December has been very busy for 5th grade. We have been rehearsing for the Christmas celebration, and we have also been rehearsing for our caroling trip. This trip was a great success. The fifth graders practice Christmas carols and we sang at two separate places. I can say that we brought Christmas joy to those that heard our students. The students showed their joy and served the community by spreading their joy and ministering by singing carols that mentioned the Joy that we celebrate because of the Christ child’s birth. It was touching to see how the people were blessed. We went out to bless them and in return they blessed us with gifts for each student and even with a donation to our fund for our graduation trip in June. We had fun and thanked the Lord for his blessings.

Thankfulness
In bible we have talked about obedience as we learned about Moses and the Judges of Israel. We also took time to thank the Lord for his blessings and celebrated with a Thanksgiving Feast in our classroom. We also enjoyed the harvest fair.
