Pre-K 4 has been a busy place. We continue to learn the Letter of the Week. As of February 2nd, we have learned the letters A-S. Beginning in January, the boys and girls started writing the letter of the week. We always ask the Lord to help as writing can be really hard.

In library, Pk-4 enjoys when I read a book to them that is correlated with their letter of the week. This week for the letter Q we read the book, “The Quilt Story” by Tony Johnston. They enjoyed reading about the love that the character had for her quilt that her mom made for her. After the story they had the opportunity to color their own quilts. We had some wonderful creations.

Pk-3 has continued to enjoy picture books that I read to them every week. After I read to them and we discuss the story they color a picture that is related to the book we read. Then they get the chance to look or “read” books on their own. They have especially enjoyed reading “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.” After we read the book I shared some cookies with them, they were very pleased to say the least.

I am so proud of how hard Pre-K 3 worked on their Christmas Teddy Bears for our beautiful bulletin board. We sure did dirty our hands and clothes and made a huge mess, but it was well worth it and very fun. We constantly sang Christmas songs and spoke about the true meaning of Christmas. Wevencouraged the children to thank Jesus for all that we have and to give thanks unto Him with a cheerful heart.

The best craft we made in November was our Turkey hands. The childrens’ hands were traced for the turkeys’ body and it’s feathers. We used googly eyes to make the turkeys look silly. Best of all, we portrayed all of our hard work on our bulletin board. All of our turkey hands were placed in the shape of a huge cross with the saying, “We are hungry for you Lord” written below it!

For classroom Art we created Indian necklaces out of macaroni. We dyed the macaroni many different colors with food coloring. We encouraged the children to follow a patterning sequence, such as yellow-red-yellow or orange-green-orange. Everyone had lots of fun!

We are learning about the “real” Christmas story. Jesus came to earth and was born as a baby, just for us! We are memorizing Luke 2:1, “Today in the TOwn of David a Saniour has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.”

Songs areĀ  a part of our every day schedule in Pre K-4. Some of our favorites are: 5 Little Speckled Frogs, 5 Little monkeys, Teasing Mr. Alligator (because Mr. Alligator likes to nibble the little monkeys’ ears), and Jesus We Crown You With Praise. We love to sing silly songs and we love to praise the Lord!

Elementary School’s Christmas Program took place on Friday, December 12, 2008 – “Through the Eyes of the Friendly Beasts”. Third through fifth grade elective classes performed the drama, dance and chorus part of the program. Pre-school were dressed up as the world’s cutest angels. Kindergartners were the kings and brought gifts to Baby Jesus. First and second graders were shepherds out in the fields keeping watch over their flocks.

This program had us view the Christmas Story through the eyes of the animals that were present that Holy Night. The Sanctuary was filled with parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and many friends. Over 700 were in attendance.

Please check out “Galleries” to view some really cute pictures.

In Pre-K 4 we do crafts to reinforce our academic concepts. We painted fuzzy yellow ducks, made fuzzy fish, orange pumpkins, and colored and decorated an “Ii”. We colored horses and houses and made big brown gorillas. Yes, we are busy, busy, busy in Pre-K 4.
