Coming up in October: Funny Feet Day and Purple Day. Come read next month to learn what we do!

We are learning the sign language alphabet, and also sign language words. And for the first time, this year the boys and girls are learning how to call 9-11. If there is an emergency at home with Mom or Dad, the children are learning how to call for help. We practice on a real, (disconnected) phone.

We sing worship songs every day, and pray together as a class. We also sing silly songs including Zippity Doo Dah and the Pussy Willow Song. We also have fun singing about Tommy Thumpkin with funny voices.

We have made fuzzy yellow ducks, green turtles, laid on the rug to make squares with our bodies, and played real triangles. We are learning God’s word and have been learning two verses: Matthew 18:5, “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in My name welcomes Me.” And also, Jeremiah 31:3, ” I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with lovingkindness.”

September got off to a busy start in Pre-K 4. We have a class of 24 children: 16 girls and 8 boys. We started right away learning the Letter of the Week. We have begun the numbers as well. We met Mr. Feely, a box friend who has a secret object inside, and we have to use our fingers only to touch it and try to guess what it is. The very first object was a real ostrich egg. We have also met Mr. Alligator, a green puppet who especially likes to nibble little ears!

The Pre-K classes have been enjoying their library time with Corduroy books. We have read a selection of books written by Don Freeman. The titles we have enjoyed are; “Corduroy,” “Corduroy Goes To The Library,” and “A Pocket for Corduroy.” Our tiniest students have loved listening to stories of this cuddly bear and his adventures.

Reader’s Oath – by Debra Angstead
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it’s the key
To growing up right.
I’ll read to myself,
I’ll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I’ll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
‘Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
Children and adults need time to unwind and enjoy the summer, so make summer reading fun! Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from reading (or learning) since students who engage in reading activities return to school refreshed, excited and ready to pick up where they left off. Also remember that most Evangel students have summer book reports to do so…
Here are some tips to make reading a positive experience:
Keep LOTS of reading material around the home –books, newspapers, magazines and always, the Bible
Read outdoors – at the park or beach
Read to your child (it doesn’t matter how old or young your child is!)
Let your child read to you (older children can read newspaper or magazine articles)
Visit the library, check your local library’s website for special reading-related
activities and age-appropriate book lists
Model reading – turn off the TV and each person reads his or her book
(including Mom, Dad, grandparent)
ASK them what they think about what they’ve read and LISTEN to what they say

Have a wonderful summer!
We had a wonderful graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 24th. Family members were on hand to see their children receive awards and their diplomas. We recited Bible verses, sang songs and enjoyed a snack after wards. It was a great day! Now we are ready to enjoy a fun summer, full of surprises and blessings. Thanks, Pre-K 4 children and parents, for a great year!

Check out “Galleries” for some great pics.
Pk3 has enjoyed listening to summer time stories such as “Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea.” It gave us a great opportunity to talk about the outdoor summer activities that we engage in. They had lots of fun talking about their trips to the beach and pool.
