It was a rocky first two innings for the Eagles in their first scrimmage against one of the best travel teams in Queens Nyc “the Rays”.
We gave up nine runs quick.
But….
to everyone’s surprise after the first two innings we completly shut them down the last four innings.
We threw Knuckleballs and made great plays including a few double plays.
Yes we made errors and left many men in scoring position but ended very strong and walked away with extreme confidence and the respect of the opposing team.
Our pitchers
the Hinton brothers and Julian shut them down last 4 innings.
This means we might just have a team to compete starting April 4th opening day.
Amazing day!
Btw,
The parents were great and came to support on this beautiful day for baseball.
Go Eagles!

When thinking about athletes the first thing that usually does not come to mind is three piece suits and elegant dress. But, to celebrate their accomplishments and a hard fought season, the athletes of Evangel got together for their annual sports banquet. During the banquet, athletes are recognized for their commitment, dedication, and hard work. They put in countless hours of training and worked tirelessly to not only better themselves, but their teammates as well. What made this Banquet special was the relationship and bonds that these athletes shared with each other. True relationships are not formed over night; they take time to build and time to grow. They are rarely perfect. They have ups and downs and plenty of growing pains, but it is threw these experiences that bonds are strengthened and lasting memories are made.

Baseball Team Places First
Season Champions
As the season approached us, the excitement for baseball’s return to Evangel was so strong that it was hard not to expect great things. And as the head coach, I can say our Eagles did accomplish great things. We came into the season with many questions about how we would look as a team and how the competition would be in our league. We finished in first place (Season Champions) with an 8-2 record. In the semi-finals we fought hard and received 2nd Place by an extra inning game to Brooklyn Friends. To add to our teams success, our captain Ronald Barillas was honored with the league MVP award.
In our teams very first meeting, I told them I was looking for a group of guys who would help me build the foundation to a successful high school baseball program that honors the Lord. As I look forward to the upcoming season, I say proudly that Evangel Christian School is now running a respected baseball program that gives all the glory to God.
Giving all the glory to Jesus Christ,
Coach Berrios

Baseball
With our season opener approaching quickly (March 26th vs Nazareth), our guys continue to work extremely hard preparing for what we expect to be a very successful year for our first year program. I am very excited about my group of guys who have given me and my stuff all they got in dedicating themselves to the team. We all believe that it isn’t simply practice that makes perfect but “PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”. We know that as hard as we work as a team and individually, there is always someone else working harder than us. Therefore, when we play the game of baseball we do it with respect and ALWAYS remembering Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” We will always strive to honor Jesus in our victories and in our defeats.
Led by senior and captain Ronald Barillas, the team is made up of mostly seniors and juniors with only one sophomore and freshman. The pitching staff will be anchored by junior Brett Bender and followed by seniors Daniel Suarez and Ronald Barillas. The back end of the pitching staff will be held down by senior Timothy Velez. Junior Jared Zeth Velez will do most of the catching for this talented pitching staff. We hope that our excitement for this season only spreads throughout Evangel. So come out and cheer on your Evangel Eagles!
It is with much excitement to announce the return of Eagles Baseball at Evangel. Each member of this year’s team will play a major role in this years team!

Soccer Update
The Soccer team is coming along quite well. The boys that tried out and continue to practice and are consistently improving in both physical endurance as well as skills. We had several new faces show up since last year’s soccer club, and I’m glad to welcome all who want to learn more about soccer. All the guys are very excited about settling into their positions and growing closer as a team. Miss Lawrence – Soccer Coach

Let's Play Soccer
The soccer club continued this year as an after school event every Thursday for the few devoted athletes who wanted to travel to a nearby park and brave the cold weather. We honed our skills as well as scrimmaged to practice any newly learned skills. I am proud of the students who came out to learn the sport for the first time and also those students who are quite the experts and wanted to share their knowledge and love for the game with others. It was fun to have a group of kids so excited to participate in an extra curricular activity. – Miss Lawrence
